Lemon water in the morning

Came across this yesterday and I’ve decided to give it a try. It certainly can’t hurt!

Ten Reasons Why You Should Drink Lemon Water in the Morning

Although I don’t need #10 – “Helps to break the coffee habit” – since I gave up my morning coffee several years ago when it made me nauseated every day, and caused frequent vomiting! I do break down occasionally and have coffee for a treat, but I no longer feel that there is no morning without coffee. Now that I drink it as a treat, I truly savor it, and once in a big blue moon doesn’t seem to have that negative effect.

For PWFs, a couple of the reasons cited are particularly attractive: #1 Boosts your immune system, #3, Helps with weight loss, #4 Aids digestion, and #5 Is a diuretic.

Of course, PWFs who’ve been around a while know there are all sorts of claims being made for various “alternative health” measures and supplements, usually accompanied by some outrageously priced product. The difference here is there is no profit to be made by the claimants. Lemons are, well, lemons. The benefit doesn’t come from some manufactured fake lemon. You need a REAL LEMON. You know, those oval shaped yellow things with thick skins. No preservatives added!

I picked up fresh lemons at Woodman’s (a Madison WI only store!) at 2/$1 last night. It’s not clear how much you need, but I figured a half a lemon per morning should do it. But I’m also adding some cinnamon chai with rooibus (African red tea). This chai has loads of ginger as well as cinnamon – both spices recommended for having similar powers to lemon.

I can personally attest to the value of ginger as a digestive aid – ginger ale and soda crackers are my prime defense when I’m feeling nauseated and throwing up. Unfortunately, ginger ale is overloaded with carbs (not as many as regular sodas, but still too much), and soda crackers have gluten. I am finding that ginger tea makes a good substitute for ginger ale, and I can drink it several times a day. The cracker part I’m still working on….

I’m finishing up my lemon water/chai tea right now. The hard part at first will be to make this my morning ritual. Maybe if I can get a morning ritual going, the night time ritual will be easier!

Thanks for sending me this! I return to the doctors on Tuesday to hear about my gallbladder, but I doubt it’s a problem if I haven’t received an urgent call…so hopefully, the lemons will help! And as you pointed out…it can’t hurt!

I’ve kept this up fairly consistently since this post. It’s a pleasant way to start the day. I add some ginger tea spiced with cinnamon (cinnamon is also a good spice for fibro) to the mix. Not seeing any weight loss yet, but then we had the holidays and I did overindulge. Had food around that I normally don’t have. Like, ummm, key lime pie. (Two. I ate two whole key lime pies! They were supposed to go to my daughter’s house, but I couldn’t resist. Bought the second to replace the first, and even that one never made it!)

I am, however, noticing that when I don’t have bad choices around my appetite is a lot lighter with the lemon water start. Fact is, although I didn’t LOSE, I also didn’t GAIN, which is a big deal given all the bad choices I made!

As for other benefits, such as immune support, those are long-term effects.
